Wednesday April 27, 2011 Publish: Sarah Hoye, CNN http://m.cnn.com/primary/_xffZt2-ixldc3ywgTX A former Black Panther convicted nearly 30 years ago of gunning down a Philadelphia police officer was granted a new sentencing hearing by a federal appeal court. The court's decision does not grant Abu-Jamal a new trial and his conviction of murder stands. Abu-Jamal was convicted and sentenced to death for 1981 killing of Officer Daniel Faulkner. He's on death row at state prison in Southwest Pennsylvania.
